Media Arts Course Description
5th Grade Students will explore basic graphic design concepts such as layout, text, and color with the program Comic Life. Graphic design projects will be used to market other multi-media creations made by the students.
6th Grade Students will compose a short stop-motion video using digital iMovie 09. The movies will be created using a verity of methods including cut-paper and claymation. Students will make a sound track to their movie using Garage Band 09.
7th Grade Students will use Adobe Photoshop CS6 to draw and add text.
8th Grade Students will learn how to create animations using Flash. The animations will be accompanied with an original sound track created in Garage Band 09. Projects will be assembled in iMovie and exported to iTunes.

2nd Grade
• Faith Ringgold Self-Portrait – 9x12”, self-portrait, tempera paint, pattern
• Toy Triptych – 5x15”, observational drawing, pattern, sharpie/marker
• Textured Landscape – 9x12”, texture rubbing, sharpie/crayon
• Symmetry Monster – 12x18”, complementary colors, symmetry, cut paper
• 4-Legged Creature – 9x12”, cut paper, patterned paper
• Van Gogh Flower Pot – 12x18”, symmetry, liquid watercolor, still-life, stencil
• Paper Weaving – 8x8”, cut paper, weaving
• City collage
• Digital self portrait - 8" x 10.5" Tux paint
Kindergarten Students learn how to love art and respect the supplies. Kindergartners develop motor skills and learn what happens whencolors are mixed together. Most of the lessons are based off of classic children's books. These are some of our favorite books:

• Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson
• Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss
• What to Think when a Penguin Turns Pink? by Lynne Rickards

• Yurtle The Turtle by Dr. Seuss
• Horton Hears a Who by Dr. Seuss
• Horton Hatches an Egg by Dr. Seuss
• The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
• One Fish, Two Fish by Dr. Seuss
• Pattern Fish by Trudy Harris
• Pancakes Pancakes by Eric Carle
• The Snowy Day by Jack Ezra Keats
